courtyard N

This courtyard is in a hospital.

The combination of materials such as timber, rocks, pots and gravel are very subtle and the contrast with the colours of leaf heals our sense.

This garden can be a tranquil space where people can unwind from their disease and considered about less-maintenance, contrast and harmony with architecture, function as a garden in hospital.

The window frame of the entrance in this hospital shows this garden as a ‘tableu’.

So we designed this garden as a framed picture which people can feel seasonal effect on.

The line of timber decking leads the eyes to behind.

There, three stones are arranged.

They can be arranged as considering about their form, volume and balance to be in harmony with modern building rather than making contrast to.

Behind there, ever-green Buxus microphylla var. japonica are planted in pots.

Form as well as texture, color and line of these box-wood and pots can make contrast in this garden.

Painted white concrete wall and louver wood screen fence are set as a background.

These artificial line of louver fence as well as pots and decking make plants conspicuous and also unity in this garden.

Osmanthus fragrans var. aurantiacus, Camellia japonica and Acer palmatum change and fade themselves seasonally in this north-facing courtyard garden.

To make seasonal fade conspicuous or as a foil for them, stone arrangement and gravel, timber fence, decking, and pots make harmony with architecture.
