This client required a re-imagining of their kitchen, which had not been changed since first occupation many years preceding. Though functional, the prevailing design was flawed and archaic. The new vision was a fusion of country elements and modernized facilities, which accommodated ideas such as recycling and power-saving lighting. By segregating areas of functionality, whilst simultaneously incorporating a minimalist approach, the end design is elegantly spacious and well lit, ergonomic and utilitarian.
The original kitchen may have been suitable for the 80's, but lacked a certain elegance compared to current kitchens.
The existing hob insert had to be considered in the new designs since all the granite tops were to be reused.
The obvious impractical location of the pot drawers had to be addressed.
An obvious adjustment to the space was a more generous thoroughfare between the kitchen and the outdoor entertainment area.
The scullery, though hidden, was cramped and dank.
The prevailing storage was practical but needed to be expanded.
The new design proposed a lighter, simpler space, with minimal clutter coupled with maximum functionality. The revamp allowed for maximum reuse of existing elements, with minimal replacement cost, upgrading only those elements that expressly required it.
Some invasive surgery was necessary, especially in the widening of the thoroughfair.
Old carcasses were carefully removed and assessed.
Defunct structures were replaced.
The pot drawers have been relocated to be adjacent to the oven. The pantry has been expanded and shifted accordingly with added LED down lighting and full ceiling extensions.
The expanded storage is more practical and with the added lighting and repainted cabinet (to match new oven), creates an inviting visage.
The new cooking space is adjacent to the freshly installed veggie drawer, bespoke chopping board (set within the old hob space with handy off-cut under counter bin). It's also within easy reach of the pot drawers and fridge as well as twin recycle bins set within a handy drawer.
All preparation is now within easy reach.
The scullery area is now uncramped and practical.
