In order to renovate an old wooden structure house into a two-family unit, the second floor was completely redone.
The stairwell is positioned in the middle of the house. We thought that conceptualizing this stairwell as a center surrounded by rooms would be an effective way to utilize the layout.
As the resident couple also had a young child, the surrounding windows helped to see where the child might be at any given time, in the kitchen, dining room, etc.
The added benefit of light coming through multiple windows resulted in a design that killed two birds with one stone.
