Walk up the steps of this Park Slope brownstone and discover a unique blending of original exterior facade and contemporary interior elements. The complete gut renovation of this 3,000 square foot narrow townhouse was built with passive-house technology principles and stylistic inspiration the designer took from the couple’s home countries of Denmark and India.

Upon entering through the refurbished doorway, the lively Brooklyn street is immediately silenced by the serene interior environment. The clean lines inside draw one’s eye to the sculptural beauty toward the back of the parlor level. Handsome quarter sawn oak wraps around the full height of the wall, ceiling and opposite side of the rear interior, creating a contemporary art installation, highlighted by a LED recessed light cove. Only, once you’ve pass through the open dining area, does the disguised kitchen reveal itself. Admire the cabinetry detailing with handcrafted slat pulls that hide the appliances. Follow the horizontal lines of this wooden tunnel through the windows to the exterior where irregular cedar slats crawl up the triple-glazed glass rear façade and cascade down the deck addition to the lower level. The dappled light provides screened privacy to the occupants of the house, while drawing elements of nature indoors.

The fusion of wooden motif and colorful practicality extends throughout the light-filled home. In the guest bathroom, bold yellow back-painted glass panels add warmth while recessed coves are both stylish and functional. A custom-built steel and white oak staircase connects all four stories of beautiful wide oak plank floor boards permeated with a whitening oil, bringing touches of minimalistic design to the home. Unique, acid-etched frosted glass partitions lead to the master bathroom where playful, glazed penny round tile work is paired with a reclaimed wood accent wall and custom mirror/medicine cabinet.
