To choose the best type of grass for your landscaping project, you need to take into account the diverse characteristics of each species. In this book of ideas, we present some types of lawns that can meet the needs of your yard, including peanut grass, emerald grass, synthetic and black grass. But remember: if you are in doubt, consult a landscape architect or a gardener. Both professionals are able to offer the best tips so that your choice is right and the garden in your yard is exactly the way you always wanted.

Another very interesting tip to complement is that you can also add  live fences to your project and make your space even more charming and intimate. Check out the most common yard grass types and their features to help decide on the best residential garden grass that will look perfect in your space.

1. Peanut grass

Peanut grass appreciates sun and water and needs to be watered every other day. It has a very fast growth and spreads through the terrain with ease. Therefore, it is necessary to install limiters so that the grass does not grow beyond the place demarcated.

This type of grass is not ideal for walkways as it can be kneaded and damaged. But its versatility allows it to be used in landscaping projects, as long as it receives periodic pruning.

2. Garden with emerald grass

Narrow-leaf and medium-sized, with the color relative to its name, the emerald grass can be a good solution when it comes to creating a large lawn. Created in Japan and implemented in Brazil in the 70's, it is considered the best grass for residential gardens, but can also be planted in industrial areas or places with higher incidence of sun, such as beach houses.

It has good resistance to trampling and, besides having good resistance to the sun, it also has a good resistance to shade. One of the drawbacks of this type of grass is that it usually grows slowly. In addition, it requires an average degree of maintenance as it produces large amounts of organic compound, and does not regenerate rapidly from everyday wear and tear.

3. Synthetic Grass

Although it has a higher initial cost of installation, artificial grass has the advantage of requiring little or no maintenance and great durability. It can be installed quickly, it's hygienic and has the advantage of staying green all year round, regardless of the season.

Synthetic grass is among the most sought-after types of grass for those who care about blue whiting, but it does not have time for the maintenance that a beautiful lawn requires. Everything in this option seems to bring benefits, from the facilitated possibilities of installation to the different models, higher or close to the ground, according to the purpose you intend to give the lawn. So here it is worth talking a bit more about synthetic grass, as there are many doubts especially about its installation process. See how it works. The synthetic grass is made from virgin polyethylene, a synthetic material of great cost-benefit, strength and durability, besides being anti-slip and anti-abrasive, it offers a very similar look to natural grass. Carpets are made with this material to be bonded to different types of surfaces, including uneven surfaces that have obstacles, since carpets can be trimmed.

The biggest among all the advantages may be the fact that you do not need to trim or worry about weeds. The synthetic grass has different heights, basically from 10 to 30 mm. It is not possible to install synthetic grass directly on the ground because it does not adhere to the ground. But it can be installed on subfloor, concrete, asphalt, smooth stone and ceramic. This type of grass already comes with water drainage system and you can proceed with cleaning easily using only soap and water.

4. Black grass

Despite the name, black grass is not that color. It is a little darker than other types of garden grass and ideal for creating details in landscaping, such as banners and other types of ornamentation.

It can also be used to cover the entire backyard if the preference is for a darker color on the lawn. Care must be taken, however, because this species is more sensitive than other types of grass and does not withstand pressure when being stepped on. In addition, it requires a little more maintenance, as it can spread quickly beyond the area where it was planted.

5. Bermuda grass

If your intention is to have a backyard with grass for family use, with sports and plenty of trampling, bermuda grass may be the perfect choice. It is the type used on soccer fields and golf courses, so it is highly resistant. It grows very fast and rebuilds at the same speed.

It also fits very well in any weather, whether hot or cold, and can withstand insects. But because of these advantages, bermuda grass needs special attention and maintenance so that it is always of the desired height and very beautiful.

6. Grasses

Also called Mato Grosso grass, this type of grass for backyards is even more resistant than the previous one, except for not adapting well to regions of predominantly cold climate. But having this grass in the yard is a guarantee of good resistance to trampling, served well in large or small spaces.

Another feature that is a benefit of this grass is its installation in backyards with erosion, because its planting helps to stop the erosive process, preventing the earth from continuing to break up. What you should consider in this choice is to have a yard with a good incidence of sunlight. But the soil should be acidic and low in fertility. This type of grass does not require much watering or pruning.

7. Korean grass

Also called Japanese grass, velvet or mascarenha, this is that model with thin and soft leaves. It is an essentially decorative grass yard, in which there will be no flow of people, since it has no resistance to trampling. But it looks beautiful as decorative grass.

Other care needs to be taken to have this grass in the yard, such as well enriched soil, frequent irrigation, and high incidence of sunlight. But because the growth is slow, you do not have to worry too often about pruning.

8. Carpet grass

Unlike the batatais type grass, which does not have such good development in cold weather, carpet grass, which is also called missioneira, grows very well at low temperatures, including frost. Its formation is fast and its leaves look good green.

It has great resistance to trampling and you can even raise animals on it, thanks to rapid regeneration. Another advantage is that the soil does not require much treatment or need to be very fertile, and the land for cultivation may be humid.
