We at homify see architecture and interior design as two of the most pervasive forms of creative expression because they literally shape the world around us. We are always looking for the new forms that buildings take because the ever-changing world of design is a testament to the limitlessness of human potential.  We love it when seemingly incompatible shapes, structures or materials are combined to create a perfect balance in a form we’ve never seen before.

Today we bring you one such home by Clear Architects in Essex. They combined classic home design and a double gable roof made of wood with an ultramodern extension off the back. The two are united in their symmetry, and the result is truly breathtaking. We hope you’ll join us for a closer look!

Striking exterior

It is seldom that the most striking part of the home is its backside. Yet, the contrasting modern extension works better here because the façade is able to fit more seamlessly among its neighbours.

The classic wood and brick home with a double gabled roof received this stylish extension and patio, including a large sitting room that faces the garden as well as a wine cellar.

Taking a closer look: the patio

The patio is paved with large concrete tiles, and there is plenty of space for dining and hanging out here. The patio is framed by a shining white wall for privacy.

A well-manicured garden is situated at the base of the fence as well, which adds lovely tones of green to a predominantly white space. The recessed lighting used to illuminate the space creates a mellow glow that is utterly inviting.

Immaculate conservatory

The large extension is mostly comprised of bespoke windows, and it is clad in immaculate white décor. There are two enormous openings in the ceiling that invite plenty of light inside to better illuminate the space.

The flooring in here extends out onto the patio in a way that creates continuity with the outside. Let's take a closer look at that circular reflective surface on the floor.

A wine cellar to boot

When exploring this gorgeous extension, we cannot overlook the wine cellar, which is situated beneath the floor. The image on the right side of the photo depicts the ways that the wine cellar can open and close. What a unique feature!

From this angle we can also get a look at how the exterior landscaping plays an integral role in the colour scheme of the interior—strong white walls, wooden accents and chrome mirror the vibe indoors.

Living roof

From the roof, we can see that the two large skylights present in the extension are surrounded with greenery! Green roofs offer immense ecological benefits, and they can help absorb water runoff. This innovative solution is increasing in popularity. The windows open fully on a hinge. Plus, a new second floor bedroom was created at the back of the house.
