What used to be a private, hidden room with not much beauty to speak of has become one of the most styled up rooms in the whole house. Yes, we are referring to the bathroom, a space that’s still private, yet not so overlooked anymore in terms of interior beauty.

Floating shelves for storage, beautiful colours splashed against the walls, showerheads ensuring a most lavish shower experience, brilliant lighting fixtures… so many options that can help style up a bathroom!

But what are our options for the floor?

1. Tiles

Definitely the most sought-after choice, as it’s pretty and practical, not to mention available in a wide range of styles, colours, patterns, etc.

2. Natural stone

If a more “raw” look is right up your alley, natural stone can accomplish that beautifully, for both floor and wall. This natural material manages to captivate all with its enticing beauty, ensuring a cosy yet elegant appearance for just about any space, bathroom included.

Remember that you can choose from polished and unpolished forms, should you want to opt for a shinier surface.

3. Marble

Our number 1 option for timeless elegance! Standing out due to its unique look and texture, marble is also one of the more expensive options, so you know that it also shows off a touch of lavishness.

Easy to clean, waterproof, and extremely durable – what’s not to love?

4. Wood

There’s nothing like a warm wooden floor underneath a bare foot, but is it really practical for a wet space like the bathroom?

In a sense, yes. If you consider a wooden floor, hardwood species such as oak or walnut are suitable, which swell only slightly when coming into contact with water. Yet it’s still advisable to partake in some maintenance and upkeep, like sealant with some oil or wax, to ensure your wooden floor stays beautiful for as long as possible.

5. Concrete

With a concrete floor, you set a distinctive look, a style that’s both raw and homely, most definitely an ambience that not every household has. This can be perfect for a range of styles, including minimalism and industrial.

Concrete can be laid without much effort and, in contrast to a parquet wooden floor, can work out quite inexpensive. And keeping it clean is as easy as a bucket of soapy water with a mop – easy peasy!

6. Pebble flooring

A big hit in the 70s and 80s, this design has stuck around for decades, most notably in showers. And there’s something distinctly ‘holiday-like” about it – must be the fact that so many homes in the Mediterranean follow suit.

7. PVC

Commonly known as vinyl, poly vinyl chloride (PVC) flooring has very convincing colours, textures and patterns, especially with a wooden look. And don’t forget that it’s also one of the softest flooring options on the market (apart from rugs and carpets, obviously).

Although vinyl flooring is very durable, it can still be damaged. If the floor is nicked or ripped, the damage is almost always impossible to fix. New vinyl is often rolled out atop the damaged surface, but to avoid multiple layers, a special machine must be used to scrape away old vinyl.

And luckily, modern design has result in PVC flooring suitable for wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens, meaning if you really want it in there, you can certainly have it!
