The living room is a communal space which is used by each and every family member, hence the needs and desires of every family member should be taken into account when designing the living room. In this idea guide, we will discuss some tips on how to make space for each family member in the living room. For example, some people may want to use the living room for working, while others may just want to watch television.

Let's check out some interesting ideas for the living room shall we? We hope you will find something that suits you through this idea guide.

The home worker: creating work space

Contrary to popular belief, the living room is not just for relaxing. Some of us happen to be workaholics! There may be some family members who prefer to work in the living room and have some interaction with other people in the room while having the background noise of the television around. Furthermore, not all homes may have space for a home office hence making space in the living room for work may be a good idea.

This home office in the living room is designed by Adriana Pierantoni Arquitetura & Design, interior architects based in Brazil.

The housekeeper: space to keep stuff

Keep in mind that someone has to clean up the living room and put things away. This is easier when there is plenty of storage space. There will be less clutter with sufficient storage space to put away things.

Pictured here, we see a closet of drawers behind the sofa set which can be used to store stuff and keep the living room neat.

The kids: make room for playing

If you have kids, make room for playing in the living room. This will not only occupy the kids and leave you with more space for relaxing but also make the living room a fun place for everyone. One idea is to integrate a swing into the living room as pictured here. This way adults can also have a swinging good time. Other than swings, you can also integrate a playhouse or a playpen in the living room depending on how old your child is.

The creative one: making room for a lot of tiny things

Every family has the creative type—the one who likes to decorate the house and create art. Make room for an art space in your living room or dedicate one wall to the creative family member so that he or she can unleash their creative power.

Pictured here, we see some wall decorations. These wall decorations can be used to place tiny decorative items or just left on its own to brighten up the walls.

The couchpotato: a comfy couch and TV

Of course there should always be space for the couchpotato on the sofa and a television for entertainment. The couch and the TV are an important part of the living room whether there may or may not be a couchpotato.

A comfortable, spacious sofa is essential for creating the ideal environment to laze around and watch television.

The cyclist: space for a bicycle in the living room

Some family members may have hobbies such as cycling that require extra space in the house. An avid cyclist who collects bicycles may not have enough space to store his or her bicycles in the house, hence the living room can be used to make space for hobbies.

Pictured here, we see a bicycle hanger made of metal colored in bright red which can be used to hang the bicycle on the wall. This is not only practical, but looks really cool as well.
