The bedroom is one of the most personal spaces in the home. It's where you go to relax, unwind, and let your guard down. As such, it should also be the place that most reflects who you really are. However, this reflection can sometimes be difficult to achieve, as self-expressions is one of the hardest things a person can do. So, if you're not ready for such a huge leap, there are still several, smaller, ways in which this can be done.

And these smaller, and easier to do, things, is exactly what this article will deal with. No matter if it's a really cool shelf, a bed set to a certain style, or even something on the bottom that will help you go to different places (there are two of these kinds of beds, and you probably won't believe the second one), we are here to help you figure out how to make a bedroom your own.

So, if you're ready to give your bedroom that spark of originality, look at the article below, and marvel at some of the sleeping spaces we've selected for you. All from top designers, this is the place to go to get inspired and try something new.

1. Stranger shelves

Personalising a space doesn't have to be a monuments occasion, and sometimes, its the smaller things that really make an impact on a room. The bedroom above, is a great example of just how much a room can be affected by something as small as a set of shelves. While the rest of the room maintains a very traditional structure, using lots of typical corners, the shelf dares to be different, going for a cool octagonal style.

And if that wasn't enough, it also stands out thanks to it's colour and the lighting. The black and white colour palette is incredibly striking, especially when placed in a room that is fairly colourful. The way the whole corner lights up, gives you a perfect view of all of the cool little knickknacks, making your personality stand out, despite only taking up a bit of the room.

If you're trying to let a little bit of you out into the world, using something that will go against the set style of the room, but that it close to your heart, is a great way of drawing attention to it, without taking up too much space.

2. Fully dedicated

An alternative to using two different styles, is to fully dedicate yourself to one. While there may be times when you are living in a home that is using a style you don't necessarily like, there will definitely be a moment in your life when you see the style of the home, and instantly fall in love with it. When you do find that special house/apartment, you'll want to fully dedicate yourself to that style.

And that is exactly what is happening in this rustic bedroom. Having apparently fallen head over heals with the old fashioned beamed roofs and exposed brick walls, the owner decided to fully embrace the style and personalise the space with some amazing carpets, and a unique, circular bed. When you find a style that fits you like a glove, all you need are a few extra touches and you're ready to go.

3. Southern spice

Other times, you'll be presented with a blank slate, something that you can play around with, getting whatever kinds of results you want. When offered these empty spaces, take full advantage of them and think of them as canvases, waiting to be painted upon with your brush of creativity. Once looking deep inside, you will eventually find the style that is perfect for you.

To fully take advantage of this canvas, switch over to using small items as ways of personalising the space. As seen in the picture above, if you're aiming for a country vibe, various trinkets and ornaments, like the antlers, or southern plants, will perfectly evoke your passion for the south. As an added bonus, personalise the bed itself for good measure, as the furry pillows definitely bring out that Southern charm.

It's amazing what feeling you can conjure up with just a few items. If you pick the right ones, you're sure to make an easy time out of it.

4. Some alone time

As we said before, the bedroom is meant to be the ultimate alone place, a space in which you can let your guard down and truly be yourself. Sometimes, this idea can be very frightening. As such, you may need an extra layer of protection so as to ensure that you have a safe space that you can truly call your own.

The sliding door, is a great addition if you're this type of person. It creates hidden protective shell around you, while also letting you see outside, thanks to the clouded plastic. Due to it's minimal design, the screen doesn't really impact the rest of the room, and could pretty much fit anywhere. If you do wish to adapt to some of the more older styles, a curtain should do just the same.

If you are a more timid person, then that's nothing to be ashamed off. These sliding doors are perfect for your own personalsed bedroom, and will ensure you get the rest you deserve.

5. The bookish type

If you're a lover of books, then this is probably the ultimate way to personalise your bedroom. The problem with being a huge fan of books, is that you'll probably run out of space, and if you're a really fast reader, that may happen sooner than you think. And when that happens, you may find yourself storing books in rooms outside your bedroom. While this isn't necessarily a tragedy, it's important to keep your favorite books as close as possible.

Luckily, this bed is perfect for book lovers. It provides plenty of space for all your favorite novels, and fits well with most surrounding styles. Things like these kinds of bed frames are great, as they manage to serve a dual purpose. They support, and let you store things. So, if you ever get into the situation in which you finish a book, yet aren't sleepy enough, and want to start the next volume, simply reach down, pick it up and start reading. It makes your life easier, and gives your guests a glimpse into the kind of person you are.

Whit a new bookcase built, the only real question is: Which books are going to make the cut?

6. Levitating

If you've ever dreamed of being a magician or an astronaut, and have always wanted to know what it's like to sleep several feet off the ground, now you have the opportunity to do so. Hovering a good chunk above ground, this bed is both a cool way to fall asleep, and an interesting way of saving up space. The concern about having enough space, comes from the way the bed was built.

The design is incredibly minimalist, and with a bit of paint could most likely fit into any style of home. If you want to show that you're both adventurous, and have an eye for style, a frame that will hoist your bed up into the air is a great way of showing that. Make your bedroom look cool, and save on space, all with one easy fix.

7. Fit for royalty

Kids are our everything. They are those that will ultimately carry on our legacy, and ensure that we are not forgotten. As such, it's incredibly important that our kids get as much rest as possible, so that they can excel in all their future endeavors. An important feature of making sure that the kids get a good night's rest, is that their rooms have to be as comforting and welcoming as possible.

To achieve that kind of comfort, try adding little items like different shaped pillows, or see-through curtains. This way, you can give your children some privacy, while also making sure that they're safe. It works just like the sliding doors in one of the rooms above, but doesn't isolate as much. It's important to both interact with your child, and give them the space they need, in order to let them develop properly. Personalising the bedroom to their specifications, is a great way of doing just that,

8. All in one

Sometimes, the space you have to work with is going to be incredibly limited, and you're going to end up having to cut some corners somewhere. However, this should not prevent you from get a very personalised sleeping area. If it comes down to having to reduce some spaces, try to think of ways in which you could combine these rooms, so that instead of loosing, you'd be gaining something.

A great example of this, is the room above. Not only does it combine a living room, dining room and a bedroom, but it also manages to do so without sacrificing space. Each area has it's own corner, and actually, it seems that the bedroom got the best deal. Not only do you get to sleep up high, surveying your room before you go the sleep, but you also have a cool, lit up staircase leading you there.

Even when things seem dire, mixing things together is better, than splitting things apart.

9. Going places

As we promised before, there will be two rooms that will transport you to different places. The first, was the room with the bookshelf. They say that every book contains a universe, so with so many books below you, you have almost an infinite amount of worlds to visit with your mind. However, if you're feeling more adventurous, and would like to explore this world, this bed is made for you.

Thanks to the wheels, this bed is perfect for moving around in. Not only could it technically visit plenty of places, but in a more practical sense, it's easy to move around your room. This means that whenever you feel the need to add something new to the room, and you feel that, with the room changed, the bed would look better in a different corner, you can just easily move it to that side and see how it works. If you're constantly personalising your room, you should make it easier on yourself, by having something that can be as flexible as you.

If you're happy with the way your bedroom turned out, and are interested in playing around with a different room, then this article can help you upgrade your kitchen in several great ways.
