Stone, with its multitude of sizes, shapes, colours and types, is an exceptional material for decorating the home.
There's a type and colour of stone for each different style; whether it’s large and coarse to achieve a rustic look, or smooth and flat to achieve a minimalist look. Thanks to its strength, versatility and uses, this material is always among the most chosen when designing a home.
With this in mind, today we’re bringing you eight amazing ideas for integrating stone into the home. Let’s get started…
For the garage area there’s nothing better than the firmness of porphyry paving stones; aesthetically pleasing and durable, they’re perfectly suited for the task. This type of cladding ensures a floor for a lifetime, but it is advisable to pay close attention to the placement system so that the surface is as uniform and regular as possible.
Create an impactful interior by building a wall of lava stone slabs. You can create an amazing array of textures and colours thanks to the different shades of grey, and as with the example above, spotlights can be placed in the floor or ceiling to generate beams of light that create an interesting effect on the shapes of the wall.
To generate a sensory contrast with the aridity of the lava stone, it is a good idea to choose a matte porcelain tile covering of a warm coloured sand for the floors. These offer a smooth elegant surface that’s also practical and easy to clean.
Back in the garage we could find that the porphyry paving stones create a monotone, overly functional environment, but the incorporation of a large wooden planter adds more colour and texture to the area, circumventing this problem.
Contrasting textures is a great way to bring depth and character into your home. In this image we can see the rough interconnecting shapes of the grey stone wall which perfectly combine and contrast with the smoothness of the polished wooden desk. The dark tones of the wall and the desk are balanced thanks to the choice of sandy porcelain for the floor.
The architects have shaped this fantastic façade using a multitude of textures in the various forms of stone surrounding the entrance. Floor level spotlights have then been used to highlight the different areas and textures to maximise the effect.
Nothing says refinement and luxury more than marble. Here, a polished stone was chosen in sand and pink tones that gives the space an elegant and sophisticated frame. The pink tone blends beautifully with the dark wood of the cabinet under the counter; also used in the panels that border the large mirror.
The kitchen can benefit from stone surfaces too; granite is a great option because, unlike marble, it won’t be damaged or stained by liquids and food.
