The amount of character a home has is completely independent of its size. Some might say that the bigger the home, the more space you have to fill it with things that express your personality, but we believe that it is in fact the smaller homes that really express your individuality. They also put your creativity to the test. That's why today on homify, we're showing you a small yet advanced studio apartment in Berlin, Germany. We want to show you that limited space and bleak interiors don't go hand-in-hand.

This home can also offer you incredible space-saving ideas for your small home. Each element of this home was designed with the idea of making full use of each square metre of space, and for this apartment, that's only 30. So come with us if you're interested in an intriguing home with innovative storage!

Here it is

This is the big picture of the 30 square metre apartment in Germany's capital.  The white interior widens the place a bit, but it's the innovative storage in almost every corner of the room that really make this a space-saving apartment.

Let's start off with what's right in front of us–the bed. We see at the foot we have an interesting ledge where this resident has decided to place his house shoes. We can also see that the bed itself is on a huge raised platform and was made with built-in drawers on both sides for storing clothes, books, or anything else your heart desires.

You can never have enough shelves

Shelves are an important element to any home, but smaller homes benefit from them more than anything else. And we love how we have a mix of open and closed shelving here.

Having doors hides all those loose and unattractive items, such as assorted toiletries or cleaning products, but we have open shelving for the items we can arrange in a more organised fashion. And the open spaces are perfect for accents, like a small vase of flowers.

A cute kitchenette

On the other side of the shelving area, we have the small kitchenette. Since this apartment is only 30 square metres in area, a full-sized kitchen was out of the question, but there's nothing wrong with having half of that. A single basin for the sink suffices for one person, and a half-sized cook top really saves on counter space. And did we mention how we love the wooden elements? Wood works great in any interior design scheme, whether it's lighter or darker in tone, and having a combination of both adds a nice country touch.

Are you struggling with space in your small kitchen? Then check out these seven smart items every small kitchen should have!

Small work space

On the other side of the bed, we have a rather multi-purpose area. This area could be used as a small work space, a snack station, or simply a hang-out area for guests. The small counter over the heater provides a nice work space and the addition of a few small drawers helps again with organisation, but we also thoroughly enjoy these seats.

These wooden blocks coordinate with the other wooden elements in the apartment and are covered with a soft textile for comfort. The best thing is, you can move them to any corner of the room and repurpose them.

Modernity in the bathroom

Our last stop is the bathroom. This room is more modern in design than the rest of the apartment, but that's just perfect for this space. The black and white mosaic tiles make the bathroom look clean and sophisticated and also make cleanup a breeze. The same goes for the standing shower with glass doors.

The storage for the bathroom is near the kitchen–as we saw earlier, the towels were stored there. All in all, this home has remarkable space-saving features that make organisation and small-space living not only manageable, but perhaps even desired.
