Located in Mühlheim, Germany, this home was completely transformed by the design genius of ONE!CONTACT. They took to the 185 square meter home and 95 square meter basement to convert the 1947 dwelling into a contemporary and innovative space for living.

Incorporating a geothermal heat pump, central controlled ventilation with heat recovery, a photovoltaic system and extensive insulation, this green home prioritises energy saving. Let's take a closer look…

'Before'

This poor home had been left to deteriorate, but the clients and the architects saw its potential and realised it.

Taking the drab and slightly dilapidated structure, they reconceptualised the spaces, the interior, and the exterior appearance. But what hapened next?

'After'

It's hard to believe it is the same house! Some minor additions increase the size of the living area, and the fresh white appearance is accompanied by a delightful brick element. The outside face is no longer run-down and tired, but bright and inviting!

Exterior | Interior

For ONE!CONTACT architecture rests on the relationship between exterior and interior design, for both these forms are interdependent. They aim to craft homes where these two conditions are  in harmony with one another.

The landscape design is given the same careful consideration and attention to detail that they invest in their interiors. The result is a holistic design that WOWS from start to finish.

The stairs

We had a glimpse at this dramatic stairwell, from the outside, through the large square window; but little did we know just how dramatic it really is!

Swooping down through the lofty double-height space, the spiral form gracefully offsets the otherwise rectilinear space.

The living room

The extra light from the stair lobby is borrowed in the greater living space, which is simple, yet charming. The beautiful timber floors are paired with white walls and a concrete fireplace element adds an extra material texture.

The furniture and furnishings pick up some of these earthy tones, while also bringing some brighter, more vibrant colours to the mix.

The kitchen

The kitchen is anchored by the flip-side of the concrete feature and comprises a perfectly composed and rationalised set of joinery. The timber top picks back up on the flooring. It's about as sophisticated as they come!

We've compiled plenty more kitchen examples here if you're still in need of more inspiration!

The bathroom

Last but, certainly not, least let's take a quick look at the bathroom! Wow, wow, WOW! That shower is an absolute dream: if a rain head wasn't enough, it has two additional side outlets, too!
